Partnership with Christiani in mechatronics visualization

Magdeburg/Stuttgart/Konstanz. tarakos GmbH has been partnering with Christiani, a Konstanz-based technical training institute, for some time in the field of virtual reality technology.

This year, Christiani will be demonstrating a "real" 3D process visualization of a mechatronic system at the educational trade fair didakta in Hall 7, Booth 302 in Stuttgart. The real-life mechatronic components provided by Christiani together make up an automatic cube assembly system. While the system is in motion, every movement will be displayed on a PC monitor in a virtual 3D mock-up.

To implement the solution, the individual virtual mechatronic models were carefully arranged using mMS-VRbuilder, a virtual configuration tool. Next, this 3D scene was ported to the process visualization environment using tarakos' 3D Visualizer (WinCC add-on). Because the PLC position, angle and status values are linked to the virtual 3D models with WinCC tags, any changes in the PLC values automatically animate the virtual model.

This is a prime example of how to make a digital factory reality. The technology offers several benefits, including the ability to present complex systems and to enable students to test PLC programming on virtual models and see in a very realistic fashion what might happen.
